UBC German Club
There’s a German Club at UBC! Last week I went the first time to one of their meetings and I must say it is really an awesome group! Every level of language ability is represented: native speakers, learners and also people who don’t yet speak German but would like to learn. You can meet there all categories of German speakers that you can imagine: students who are learning German at UBC, exchange students from Germany, students who have been for an exchange to Germany and now would like to keep up their German, native speakers born and raised in Canada, native speakers born and raised in Germany … And there is actual German-speaking going on at the meetings of this group! So this is really a great opportunity for everybody who would like to practice German, learn German or just speak his native language and at the same time meet nice and interesting people who are really enthusiastic about German language and German culture!
The conversation meetings are on Thursdays, biweekly, at the Pub ‘Wolf and Hound’. A further plus factors that has to be mentioned is: beer! For members of the UBC German Club there will be free beer! You can achieve this membership by paying 10$ when you come the first time to the meeting.
They also offer access to German courses, German movie nights and lots of other social events! I am really impressed by this group and I recommend everybody interested in speaking or learning German to go there! Check out their website for more information!
