“A Story of Freedom and Emancipation”
Yesterday the three great sopranos from Austria, one of their concerts in Vancouver we already have been covering in 2011, performed in the fifth show of “Das Supertalent” (Got Talent) 2012! They performed with a vocal mix of pop and opera, and they made it straight to the semi-finals!!!
Shirin, Nasrin and Nazanin are three beautiful women from Iran with amazing voices. Years ago, they immigrated from Iran to Austria because they wanted to live their dream: to sing in freedom. In Iran, for women it is not allowed to sing in public. They say the voice of a woman may uncover her beauty. Therefore, the singing of women in public is considered a type of indecent behaviour. Nazanin says: “Voice is prohibited.” Shirin and Nasrin added that there are only very few opportunities for women to do music, and that the women in Iran cannot move freely and have only very little options to learn. Only at private parties it was possible for them to sing. But that was for an audience of 20, 40 or hundred persons at most. This situation led to their decision to leave Iran and to come to Austria where they can live the life they would like to live. Now, in Cologne, Germany, their dream came true. They said, it was a great honor to sing for the first time for such a huge audience of 3000 people. Everybody in the concert hall was thrilled by their performance of Ennio Morricone’s “Nelle Fantasia”, and they were celebrating them with standing ovations!!!
